Community Impact Funds

Community impact funds are funds designated to support the current and future needs of our community.

Community impact funds are unrestricted which provides greater flexibility to make timely philanthropic investments to address challenges and opportunities. These funds are designed to make a broad and lasting impact on the community by supporting a wide range of charitable initiatives and programs.

Robert Emil Thuemmel & Matthew Keillor Fund

The Robert Emil Thuemmel & Matthew Keillor Fund was the first named fund established at HCCF in November 1995. The family could never have anticipated the evolving needs of Huron County from 1995 to today, but their endowed gift of unrestricted community impact funds has enabled our community to continue to thrive.

Community impact funds have a diverse impact, matching the needs and opportunities in the county. During the COVID-19 pandemic, community impact funds were the first line of help to support pop-up pantries for those facing food insecurity. Community impact funds have supported urgent cultural efforts, including the preservation of historical sites, that have had lasting impacts on our community. Our community impact funds recognize the value of providing a lifeline for the unpredictable future.

Designated Funds

A Designated Fund offers a meaningful avenue for giving to specific organizations that hold personal significance for you.

Designated Funds offer sustained, yearly assistance to one or multiple charitable organizations chosen by the donor when the fund is created. From there all accessible grant funds are allocated to these designated organizations.

Huron County Lighthouses

Harbor Beach, Pointe Aux Barques, and Port Austin Reef Light all have designated endowed funds at HCCF. Each lighthouse is in a different stage of revitalization and restoration but all three had donors interested in creating a permanent source of funding to ensure these beacons continue to shine. These funds are used as an additional tool for giving to support the lighthouses.

Dr. Edward & Alice Steinhardt
Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fund

Established in 2007, the Steinhardt family wanted to provide annual support for their church. This annual support is used for church maintenance and upkeep at the Parish. Dr. Steinhardt contributed diligently to his church during his lifetime, the Steinhardt Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fund continues that legacy and support each year.

Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds offer donors the opportunity to actively engage in the grant recipient selection process by advising HCCF.

This type of fund is widely favored because it enables donors and their families to play an active role in community philanthropy. It operates similarly to a private foundation but with streamlined administration and oversight, sparing donors from the administrative burdens.

Travis Fischer Memorial Fund

Travis Fischer was a coach, a mentor, and an advocate for youth sports. When he passed away at only 47 years old, his family approached HCCF with one goal: to keep his legacy of love for youth and sports alive. It was important to the Fischer family that grants could be awarded to a variety of programs and communities, as Travis coached at multiple school districts. Each year the Travis Fischer Memorial Fund provides support for youth sports and recreation opportunities – including Little Leagues, Rural School teams and recreation, and the playground project at Huron County SafePlace. A donor advised fund allows the family to assist in continuing Travis’ legacy.

Field of Interest Funds

A Field of Interest Fund allows donors to impact the issue areas they care about most while providing flexibility to address emerging needs in that field.

Field of Interest Funds enables donors to designate a specific area of focus, such as education, seniors, health, recreation, and beyond. Grant dollars from the fund are then directed toward tackling the most urgent issues within that chosen field of interest.

Harold and Carolyn Robison Foundation Fund

After 60 years of thoughtful philanthropic giving, the Harold and Carolyn Robison Foundation made the challenging decision to dissolve. To continue their giving in Huron County, the family contacted HCCF to create a permanent field of interest fund. The fund supports projects impacting education, mothers and children, and basic needs services. A field of interest fund creates permanent resources for broad issue areas that are meaningful to the donor.

Scholarship Funds

Giving to an existing scholarship fund or supporting a pooled scholarship program demonstrates your commitment to meaningfully supporting students and their goals.

Scholarship Funds are designated to support the educational pursuits of Huron County students. Scholarship funds support those seeking a certification in the skilled trades, two year degree programs, four year degree programs, or post-graduate and doctoral studies.

Madeline M. Bauer Ubly School District Scholarship Fund

An active member of the Ubly community, and living near Ubly Schools, Madeline Bauer became committed to supporting the advancement in education of Ubly students. Through her estate, she created a scholarship fund to support an Ubly student seeking to continue their education. The scholarship is a renewable award, providing up to four years of financial support to recipients. Her generous estate planning and dedication to education now provide an annual scholarship in her name.
